Scripture tells us there are professing Christians who "have a form of godliness but deny its power" (2 Timothy 3:1-9).
1. They claim we can't overcome sin, denying God's power to strengthen us (Philippians 4:13).
2. They suggest that it's no big deal when we sin, denying God's power to discipline and punish (Hebrews 12:4-11) and His promise that we'll reap what we sow (Galatians 6:7).
3. They ignore unpopular commands, denying the power of God's commands to bless and protect (James 1:22-25).
4. They insist we can love Christ without obeying Him, denying the power of His words that say otherwise (John 14:23; 1 John 5:3).(1)
Scripture tells us to avoid such people (2 Timothy 3:5).
They can corrupt our character and lead us to deny God's power as well (1 Corinthians 15:33).
Let's hold fast to our faith and encourage other believers to do the same (Hebrews 10:23-24).

(1) There are more characteristics than these four, but these are ones I encounter on a regular basis.

3. Ephesians 6:2-3 is such a good example of a command that people ignore despite its promise for our well-being. See Underestimated Command.
