My husband and I rented an apartment for a short-term trip.
When we arrived, we discovered that the owner had just purchased new bedroom furniture that filled the tiny bedroom with a new furniture smell.
We didn’t think much of it until the first morning when we woke up with irritated eyes, noses, and throats.
After some research we discovered that new particle board furniture gives off toxic formaldehyde fumes causing the problems we experienced.
We immediately moved from the bedroom to protect our health.
Unfortunately, some people are unaware of these toxins and they get used to the smells. After long-term exposure, they end up with serious and permanent health problems.
Similarly, there can be toxins in our spiritual environment – bad influences (people, entertainment, etc.).
Even if we don’t realize the problem, even if we get used to the “smells,” we do spiritual damage with long-term exposure.
So let’s guard our hearts (Proverbs 4:23), dear Christians, and ask God to help us identify any spiritual toxins in our lives.
