Esther is afraid to ask the King to spare her people. It could cost her life.
Mordecai suggests that God* has positioned her for this very purpose in history. Perhaps she was born “for such a time as this” (Esther 4:14).
Few of us will find ourselves in a royal court or in a position to save a whole race of people, but we should know that God placed us in our specific time in history, our specific family, and our specific country for “such a time as this.”
“From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him…‘For in him we live and move and have our being’” (Acts 17:24-28).
We are here by God’s design. He has specific tasks for each of us. Let’s seek His purposes (Ephesians 2:10).

*Actually, the book of Esther is one of two books in the Bible that never mentions God specifically although God’s presence and work is an integral part of the story.
