Spiritual & Physical Atrophy

What I learned about the atrophy of spiritual muscles when I broke my ankle. #BibleLoveNotes #Bible

Our spiritual muscles atrophy if they aren't constantly exercised in prayer, fellowship and Bible study...

Slip, bump, thud! One foot missed the step and twisted like a corkscrew while the other foot twisted in the opposite direction.

Thus began my six-week adventure of getting around Budapest on one broken and one sprained ankle.

After six weeks of casted immobility, the broken ankle was stiff and painful and my calf muscle was half its normal size.

How quickly my muscles atrophied despite the fact that I’d used them faithfully every day of my life before that six-week "rest"!

It’s a good analogy for our spiritual lives.

Our spiritual muscles also atrophy quickly when we don’t use them. Only through “constant use” can we train our spirits to distinguish right from wrong (Hebrews 5:13-14).

Spiritual exercises (Bible reading, prayer, fellowship, obedience) are actually more important than physical exercises (1 Timothy 4:8).

So let's make sure that we're committed to an exercise regimen full of spiritual stretching, strengthening and growth!
