There's an important balance between "our part" and "God's part" in transforming our minds
(Romans 12:1-2).
We can't change ourselves, nor can we simply sit back and think it will happen. Both attitudes stunt our growth in Christ.
Philippians 2:12-13 is perhaps the most succinct explanation of spiritual balance:
"Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear [our part]. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him [God's part]."
Our part: prove our love by obeying Christ, taking our faith seriously, being deliberate (John 14:23).
God's part: transform us from the inside out, changing our desires and giving us power to change our actions.
These are some ways we do our part:
- Bible study
- prayer
- fellowship, service to others
- self-denial, self-control
- enjoying time with our Lord
I love how you separated the Scripture into "our part" and "God's part"! Perfect Bible study tool! I am putting on my list of blog ideas and will link back to you when I blog about it. I'm sharing a Bible study on Philippians and will soon be in chapter 2! Thank you for sharing!
