The Honest See

Two atheists are confronted with Truth. Two different outcomes proving God's existence. This 1-minute devotion explains their true stories.

Simon Greenleaf (1783-1853), esteemed Harvard law professor, admitted he didn't believe in Christ's resurrection.

"Have you considered the evidence?" a student challenged.

Greenleaf taught his students to study all evidence before making conclusions, so he undertook an honest study of Christ's resurrection, found the evidence compelling, and became a Christian.

Dr. Francis Crick (1916-2004) won the Nobel Prize for discovering DNA.

He admitted DNA couldn't have come about by chance and said the origin of life was "almost a miracle." However, Crick mocked Christianity the remainder of his life.

The Bible tells us that people "suppress the truth ... because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse." Romans 1:18-20

Let's thank God that He has given us so many proofs of His existence and goodness.

Please note: Several solid resources (listed above) claim that Greenleaf began his research of Christianity as an atheist, but a Wikipedia article on Greenleaf claims there is no proof that he was ever an atheist. I have not yet found resources with direct quotes from Greenleaf to confirm his former atheism nor evidence to refute it. Either way, the point behind this devotion is relevant because Greenleaf was clearly an intellectual who approached his research of Christian beliefs on evidence. This is a direct quote from Greenleaf: "In examining the evidence of the Christian religion, it is essential to the discovery of truth that we bring to the investigation a mind freed, as far as possible, from existing prejudice, and open to conviction. There should be a readiness, on our part, to investigate with candor to follow the truth wherever it may lead us, and to submit, without reserve or objection, to all the teachings of this religion, if it be found to be of divine origin." 1. Very interesting post. Almost like the two thieves on crosses next to Jesus. One saw Him for who He was, the other mocked. Some will see, some will choose not to. May we continue to do our part to spread the Good News, and pray for God to reap a big harvest!

    GOD BLESS!
