God's Truth IS Truth!

return good for evil, revenge, Bible, 1 Peter 3:9
"Being angry at something that can’t change becomes overwhelming, and it’s a destructive experience"
Frederic Luskin, author of “Forgive for Good”

I read a secular article about the power of forgiveness with both awe and satisfaction.

I read it with awe because the situations were truly difficult:
  • parents forgiving a careless hit-and-run driver who killed their two daughters
  • people who lost loved ones in 9/11 forgiving the perpetrators
I read it with satisfaction because the secular authorities said these things:
  • "Forgiveness can protect physical health by reducing stress and rumination."
  • "...not blaming and not hating reduces suffering. With forgiveness, one of the levels of torment is reduced.”
It's always satisfying to see secular authorities acknowledge the truths of Scripture:
"Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing." 1 Peter 3:9

  1. I've found this to be true as well. Forgiveness is healthy! It frees our hearts. The one thing that the secular accounts don't mention is that by forgiving others, we can also have the reassurance that when we forgive, we are placing the offending person into God's hands. We can trust that God will work on their hearts as well.

    Blessings, Joan
