Godly Mirror Gazing - James 1:22-25

This 1-minute devotion explains Why God's Word is like a mirror.

There's one humble reason to stare long and often at ourselves in a mirror:

"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it--he will be blessed in what he does." James 1:22-25

We should regularly stare into the mirror of God's "perfect law that gives freedom."

Here's my simple acronym for James 1:25: L.O.R.D.
Look into God's Word...
Often, regularly, faithfully.
Remember what you read. Recite, memorize, and journal it.
Do it! Obey what you learn.

As we continually stare at our reflection in the mirror of God's Word, we give Him increasing lordship over our lives:

1. We honestly see our sins and the measure of our faith (Romans 12:3).

2. We correctly understand truth and error (2 Timothy 2:15).

3. We see Christ clearly so we can reflect Him more clearly (2 Corinthians 3:18).

Let's not neglect "godly mirror gazing."
