Upside-down Perspective - Overturning Our Selfish Human Nature - Philippians 2:12-13

thinking of others more than yourself, being considerate of others, seeing other people's perspective
We need to think of others first...

We've become friends with the hotel manager in a Croatian village where we've stayed several times, so she asked us to join her for coffee when we stayed there last month.

During our conversation, she said one nationality of guests always complains that the hotel doesn't have enough TV in their language.

"They never think that when I visit their country, there is no television programming in Croatian. So why do they expect more than 3 channels in their language here?"

By nature, we human beings are self-centered, and left unchecked, our perspective gets turned upside-down like these hotel guests. Sometimes we think we're victims when were actually antagonists.

That's why God says, "Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others." Philippians 2:4 (NASB)

Today, let's ask God to help us flip our perspective so we can see things from His perspective and not our own (Philippians 2:12-13).

Tomorrow I'll share another thing my Croatian friend taught me.

  1. We do have the mistaken idea that we are privileged characters, don't we. . . :)

  2. A friend used the word "entitlement" in a overseas-missions conversation this week, so I've been pondering some of what you talked about within that context....but I am often guilty here in the U.S., too. Thank you, as always, for making me think, check my heart, and go to the Word of God for truth!
