Worthless Worship and Worthy Worship - Everyone Worships Someone or Something

Everything not based on God will fail
We are made for worship, and we will worship something. But everything we worship apart from God destroys us.

Having lived in Europe 8 years of my life, I've seen enough to know Communism was/is an evil system of government.

Some folks believe it would work if the leaders were genuine Marxists instead of the mafia-dictator types they've usually been. I don't agree.

I think the system was/is destined to fail because it's based on a denial of God. Any person, organization, or government that refuses to worship God ends up worshiping foolishness and corruption.

"The fool says in his heart, 'There is no God.' They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.
Psalm 14:1

Let's pray for our own country as we move farther from our Christian base and perilously close to atheism (1 Timothy 2:1-3).

A week from today, my husband and I will be flying to Budapest to do a couple of months of ministry, have fellowship with friends, and enjoy the city where we previously lived. Please pray for us as we make our final arrangements, pray for my health, our travel safety and that God will bless our time in Hungary. Thanks so much! Gail

    1. Thank you so much, Chris. I will continue to blog...I may not have internet access in our flat, but there are places close by where I will be able to access it.

Don't feel bad about not knowing about Statue Park. So much about the former Soviet countries is unknown to us because the government was shrouded in secrecy. The Hungarians did something unique. Most former Communist countries destroyed all of these symbols of their oppressors--all the Soviet statues put up in their cities. But in Budapest, as a reminder, they moved most of them outside the city to what they call Statue park.

I'm glad your son is interested. Let me share a quote of Lenin's recorded in Philip Yancey's book Rumors,Chapter 7:

"I made a mistake. Without doubt, an oppressed multitude had to be liberated. But our method only provoked further oppression and atrocious massacres. My living nightmare is to find myself lost in an ocean of red with the blood of innumerable victims. It is too late now to alter the past, but what was needed to save Russia was ten Francis of Assissis."

  6. We should always pray for our country, but now we are entering some perilous times. I am praying for God's mercy and that the hearts of our leaders will be turned to Him. They need to see their need for God.

Safe travels and many blessings as you return to Budapest!

  7. I am thinking about you and praying for you as you are over in Budapest.

I agree with you about communism. I grew up next to communist red China in the fifties and sixties, so I understand what you are talking about as it left a deep impression on me.
