Have you ever felt physically better after laughing with friends and family?

Amazingly, science supports this phenomenon.

The Cancer Treatment Centers of America use conventional forms of medicine to help cure cancer, but they also use  “humor therapy sessions” or “laughter clubs.

Studies reveal that laughter helps reduce pain, reduce stress, and boost the immune system.

Apparently, both the physical vibrations and mental diversion of laughter help patients feel better. So when the Bible says “a merry heart is good like a medicine,” it’s not just figurative speech! (Proverbs 17:22

Laughter is one way God gives us a "joy vacation" in the midst of routine or difficult life circumstances. So let's cultivate a merry heart and spread some joy!

    1. Thanks for asking, Lucy. I will be taking oral steroids until June 6th and then seeing a specialist in acute hearing loss. If I'm supposed to notice a difference, I haven't yet. I'm trying not to "worry about tomorrow" and doing okay most of the time. Thanks again for your prayers.

  2. A very bad bout with broncitus and then the following year another one, left me with hearing loss. The ear Dr said the nerves were affected. Hearing aids help some, but they are not a substitute for the real thing. Now I must have catarack surgery. Thank God, I can hear and see with help. And I love to laugh!

  3. I've always found laughter to be very healing when you're going through a rough time. I think laughter can help you stay focused on the good things and it relieves stress too.

Thanks so much for hosting today!

  4. Thanks Gail...I needed these laughter devotions, they are very timely for me. I have trouble relaxing and enjoying life...Our family loves to watch funny old sit coms together, like Leave It to Beaver. Now I have the okay from many sources that these are healing and good - not a waste of time like my workaholic tendencies tell me. Looking forward to next weeks devotions. Also I started listening to you read devotions after I read them...thanks for this. I enjoy listening now more than reading them as you have an encouraging and soothing voice!

    1. Thanks for your kind words, Katherine. I started the audio tool because my Hungarian friend Marta thought it would be good idea. Marta translates 2 of my devotions each week into Hungarian for my Hungarian Bible Love Notes site. And we also thought it would be good for people who are seeing impaired. But I've found that I have quite a few regular listeners who don't fall into either of those groups.
      Have a blessed weekend,
      Gail

  8. Our pastor has been speaking about the importance of joy and happiness from Philippians. Your post reminded me of some of the advice he's been giving. A merry heart truly does good like a medicine, doesn't it?!
