Why Christians Are Meant to be Like Vitamin C

Christians are called "salt" and "light," but we also have some resemblances to "Vitamin C." This 1-minute devotion explains. #BibleLoveNotes #Bible #Devotions

Christians are "the salt of the earth" and "the light of the world" (Matthew 5:13-15). Salt prevents the decay of sin and light exposes the darkness of sin (Ephesians 5:8-14).

We're not called "vitamins C" in Scripture, but I think it has some pertinent analogies, especially if we think of the "C" as Christ.

Vitamin C:

1. Is an antioxidant, protecting our bodies from harmful toxins that cause deadly diseases like cancer.

When we share Christ with others, we save them from the harmful toxins of sin that lead to spiritual death (James 1:15).

2. Lowers the effects of the common cold.

We can't completely eliminate sin in our present world, but we can lower its effect on ourselves and others when we live by God's truths and share those truths with others (Romans 8:10).

3. Helps our vision as we age.

Living for Christ brings new perspective to those around us, helping them see the love of Christ in action (John 13:35).

Salt and light are better comparisons, but I think vitamin C also has some interesting applications.

Note: I find it interesting that most animals produce vitamin C, but humans lack the enzyme required in the last step of synthesis. I have no Scriptural proof; but I have a hunch God created our bodies to produce vitamin C, then He removed that ability in Genesis 6:3 to limit our lifespan.

  2. I can't take vitamin C anymore. Well, I can't eat oranges because the acidity just kills my stomach, lol! So I just assumed I needed to avoid the vitamins too.

But I really love how you used it for the analogy. That was awesome! Thank you so much for linking up to "Making Your Home Sing Monday" today!
