Longing for Home

Home isn’t a location or building. Home is something we were made for and long for and sometimes don’t experience. This 1-minute devotion shares the true home for Christians. #BibleLoveNotes #Devotions #Bible

During my 68 years of life I’ve moved over 40 times and lived in:

houses
trailers
manufactured homes
duplexes
townhouses
apartments
government quarters
converted barracks
European flats

My experiences have taught me that home isn’t a location or a building. Home is a sense of love, security, familiarity, comfort, and belonging.

Some people never experience these things because their families are too broken. But even the best earthly families fall short. Nothing quite fulfills our longing for home.

We want and need something more.

This shouldn't discourage us because it's part of God's design. He created us for something beyond these earthly comforts, something we won't fully experience until heaven (Hebrews 11:8-16).

So today as you ponder the multi-layered feelings of the word "home," don't "let your heart be troubled." Rejoice that there is a perfect home in your future (John 14:1-4).

  2. We have moved a lot in the short amount of time my husband and I have been together, (we're currently in a move process, and it makes time 14.. and we've only been together 10 years...) I've been so discouraged lately.. I thought it made me a bad mother. THANK you for this perspective, you have no idea how much it touched me today!

    1. Stacy, I can tell you from personal experience...I moved 21 times before I was in 7th grade...moving made me flexible and prepared me for things God had planned in my future.
I actually feel blessed to have moved so many times as a child and an adult. I'm not saying it's easy, but God can use it for great good in your life and the lives of your children.
      I'm saying a prayer for your mother's heart...be encouraged!

  3. Hi Gail,
I think what mentioned above if everyone follows or remembers then there is only word I would love to say for their life "Happiness and Happiness". I would love to share it to my other friends who need to have these words.
