8 Steps to Overcome Bitterness - Dealing With Offenses Biblically

These are 8 Scriptural ways to overcome bitterness presented in this concise 1-minute devotion. #Bitterness #Bible #BibleLoveNotes

When dealing with injustice and bitterness, make this your daily "to do" list:

1. Trust God to use the situation for good (Romans 8:28).

2. Put your hope in God alone, not circumstances or earthly justice (Psalm 62).

3. Focus on the good things in your life (Philippians 4:8).

4. When unproductive thoughts overtake you, pray for your offender. And, if God prompts you to bless your offender in some tangible way, obey Him (Romans 12:14, 17-21).

5. Refuse false blame from Satan (1 Peter 5:8-9).

6. But listen carefully to God’s conviction and genuinely repent of any sinful attitudes or actions you have, no matter how small in comparison to your offender (1 John 1:9).

7. Release all bitterness by the power of God’s Spirit because you can't do it on your own (Ephesians 3:20-21Philippians 4:13).

8. Remind yourself that you are doing these things because you love Christ and owe Him your life (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).
These things have helped me when I'm dealing with injustice and bitterness. I hope they will help you as well.

    Bitterness destroys, but God restores!

      1. I pray that the Lord will help you deal with these issues, Mary. I have also had to deal with bitterness in my life and I know how deeply it can affect us and how wonderfully God can heal our hearts even if the other person never changes.

      2. Once you dig up those roots, you will be able to make Bittersnap cookies. I pray you get my joke, and receive a good laugh. If not, please pray that I will have better jokes. God with you, over every situation, and in your heart, everywhere in your life, all hours of the day and night.

    2. Great bible verses to help, thank you so much. If someone has offended me I take time to ask what has made that person broken so that something like this could fly out of their mouth or behave this way? I ask the Holy Spirit to help me see their hurt, and it works, God usually shows me that they are insecure, fearful, self reliant, rejecting love due to self protection etc, then I try love them enough to put God's love into that brokenness....

    3. This is such a beautiful post! I'm guilty of trying to come up with "behavioral ways" to make bitterness go away (I blame it on my training and background.), but we really just need to take the time to let the truth of Scripture come alive in our lives.

I LOVE Romans 8:28. I actually recently had a friend tell me that she believes that some of my current trials are going to be used to bless others in the future. He really does work all things for the good!

    5. This is just what I needed. I recently suffered disappointment in not greeting a job I thought I deserved..... and have been struggling to overcome my bitterness towards this other person who previously was my friend. this has given me a new perspective and something concrete to use to work towards positive thinking and trusting God who is in charge ood my life.

    6. Yesterday, I determined to take the first step by becoming willing to be made willing to release the pain and forgive the perpetrators. Please agree with me in prayer that God's blessings will overshadow the dark devastation of our situation and that truly Joy will come in the Morning.

    7. These 8 steps are life-saving. I've had an incident involving a former employer that just dealt a huge blow, financially as well as emotionally. Thankfully this was years ago, even though we haven't reconciled, I'm no longer bitter and angry with her.

    8. I have struggled with bitterness and I was a ble to set free by consistent prayer. Asking the holy spirit to sa away the feelings of bitterness and heal my heart.he told me dat people. Will give account of their action and he God knows how to convict and discipline.the offender. Actually there is no peace for the wicked therefore he withdraws his peace from the wicked offenders God is a God of justice.trust him.

    9. I just cannot get past the injustice, the abuse, the theft, the hate, that has been done to me. It has left me completely dead inside. I go to church. I have talked about it with my priest. I can say I forgive this person. But these feelings always seem to bubble up. I can’t forget what he did to me or his siblings.

    13. Its my first time here I have been hurt so many times that I became immune to hurt but sometimes I just snap or react in a very angry way towards a person or anything when those emotions or I have a flashback at those things or when I see someone being hurt.

      1. Hi unknown,
I would encourage you to memorize some verses on Forgiveness. This always helps me if I am struggling with a sin. It's easy to memorize verses if you just write them down and read them to yourself several times a day. God's Word actually changes our hearts and minds. It's not like any other words.

        For example, you might memorize:

Ephesians 4:32—Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

        Proverbs 19:11
A man's insight gives him patience, and his virtue is to overlook an offense.

        Colossians 3:13
Bear with each other and forgive any complaint you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

I also have a post that offers help for anger. You can copy this link and read it:
