Life Expectancy and Ephesians 2:10

It's good to occasionally think about the legacy we'll leave behind when we die. Ephesians 2:10 is good place to start.

American life expectancy is 78.2 years.

My mother died when she was 66.

As I celebrate my 65th birthday this year, I've been pondering these truths...not in a morbid way, but in perspective of eternity.

None of us knows how long we have, but it’s good to occasionally think about the legacy we’ll leave behind.

I want to “finish well.” I'm sure you do too.

And the way to finish well is to live out those purposes that God has prepared in our lives.

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10

Let's look at that verse in the Amplified version:

"For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us]."

When we find our purpose in the Lord, we understand that it's not how long we live that matters, but how we live.

The best legacy we can leave behind is one of love for and obedience to God's purposes.

    2. Hello Kiwi, tragically, my mum was taken at 66 too and I am turning 68 this year. We have a lot in common. Mum used to say "you will miss me when I am gone" what an understatement. Mum's legacy was the memories she left behind. They are irreplaceable and cannot be taken away from us. I am sure you still miss your Mum every day. I know I do and it has been over 23 years. Rose.
