When Is a Question Not Really a Question?

Scripture offers examples of people who asked questions but didn't really want answers. We can also expect questions from these types of people.

It's good for Christians to be prepared to answer questions about our faith (
1 Peter 3:15). That's why I wrote the Be Prepared Series

But we need to realize that some folks will ask questions when they don't really want answers.

⏵Some people ask questions to be rude.

Their questions aren't sincere. They simply want to trap us. They don't want answers. That's why Jesus didn't answer questions at His trial (Mark 15:3-5).

⏵Other people miss the truth even when it's staring them in the face.

They ask questions, but they don't wait for the answers. For example, Pilate asked Jesus "What is truth?" but walked away without the answer (John 18:37-38). Imagine asking this question of the Author of Truth but not waiting for the answer!!

We should be respectful and gentle when sharing with unbelievers, but we shouldn't take it personally when someone refuses to listen.
