The Danger of Lying about Our Sins

Lying takes many forms, and one type of lie proves we have no room in our hearts for God's Word!!

I enjoy watching old Perry Mason shows because the bad guy always confesses at the end of the trial. 

It would be nice if that were true in real life, but it's not.

There are times when people lie to avoid hurting someone, but most lies are selfish. People lie to make themselves look good, to avoid responsibilities, and to get things they don't deserve. Lies are also used to slander people and damage their reputations. 

People not only lie to others, they also lie to themselves, excusing and denying their sins. Some even lie about lying! 

The passage below explains how serious it is when we lie about our sins:

“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us” (1 John 1:8-10). 

So let's ask God to help us identify any self-deception in our hearts so we can honestly confess our sins without being put on trial!

    Great post Gail! I am a firm believer in telling the truth, not only to myself but to others as well, of course I always try and make sure that I add a heaping helping of love. The truth might sting a little at first but in the end I think people appreciate the honesty, at least I know I do. We just have to remember that if we dish out the truth, we have to be prepared to take it as well :)

    God sees lying as a very serious sin...an abomination.

    Prov. 6:
    16 These six things the Lord hates,
    Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:

    17 A proud look,
    A lying tongue,
    Hands that shed innocent blood,

    18 A heart that devises wicked plans,
    Feet that are swift in running to evil,

    19 A false witness who speaks lies,
    And one who sows discord among brethren.

    Prov. 12:
    22 Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight.
