Let me tell you about something I like to do from time to time to study a passage in-depth and "hide it in my heart" (See Hidden but not Hidden).
I loosely adapted this method from a Scripture memory method called figure 8.My purpose: to keep my mind more consistently focused on God’s Word throughout the day and better understand what the Bible teaches.
I choose a chapter of Scripture and read it 3 times a day, morning, afternoon, and evening. I do this for 3 days before choosing another chapter.
If the passage is really speaking to my heart, I read the same chapter 3 more days.
Why?
1. It builds my faith, hearing God’s Word throughout the day (Romans 10:17).
2. It allows God’s Word to “dwell” in my soul (Colossians 3:16).
3. It keeps me focused on Christ, not my problems (Philippians 4:8).
4. It reminds me to put God’s Word into practice, and this gives me God’s peace (Philippians 4:9).

What a wonderful way to memorizing scripture for this slow mind of mine....at least when it comes to memory work. I'm going to give it a try :-)
ReplyDeleteHey this is great, I might look into it. By the way, I left you a little something on my last post...Check it out!
ReplyDeleteBlessings :)
Great idea!!
ReplyDeleteneat idea. and I love the image of 8 too.
ReplyDeleteI am not fond of memorizing. Its blocked my mind. What I do is when I read God's word, I rather study every word and ask God what He is telling to me from his words and how can I apply it and then pray from that chapter or verse. But, I do admire people like you who can memorize verses or chapter from the bible.
ReplyDeleteI just started this method last week, Joy, and I don't know if I will necessarily memorize the entire chapter, but it's been interesting how the words have gained new meaning as I've repeated them so often. And the most important thing is that we dwell on God's Words in whatever way works best for us. Your way of memorizing sounds like a great idea.
DeleteGreat idea!Thanks for sharing!

What an inspiration!!! I already have my gratitude alarm set to go off 5 times a day. I think I will add repetitive Bible reading each time too!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of a gratitude alarm. Would you write a post about it and link it to my LOVIN JESUS 3 month link up which officially opens Monday? Gail
DeleteI totally agree with you about needing to fill our minds with His thoughts throughout the day - keeping us from worry or stress. Not just in the morning, but all through the day ...
ReplyDeleteThank you. I needed to read this tip today. You will never know how much.
ReplyDeleteWhat a good idea. My take on this is: find two or three verses that you need to meditate on and read them 8 times a day. My verses are Ephesian 3:16-20. We all need to know that God loves us and not just have head knowledge but heart knowledge! A know that I know that I know experience. I want these scriptures to become more real to me than anything else. That God LOVES ME!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of dwelling on God's Word consistently. It is my heartfelt desire to give God's Word first place in my life.
ReplyDeleteThis is an encouraging devotion, Thanks.
Choose a verse from your devotion of the day and memorize it or recall it throughout the day. Applies it.
ReplyDeleteAwesome idea. I'm going to give it a try as I'm struggling to stay focused on the Lord during my day. Thanks so much fif sharing
ReplyDeleteAwesome idea!! I also like copywork and concordance searches. Also, Read it, Pray it, Sing it, Listen to a sermon about it.
ReplyDeleteThis is the good thing.
ReplyDeleteI love your Ideas.
God bless.
