Propaganda is Threatening Free Speech

This devotion shares wisdom from Jeremiah to help us deal with anti-Christian propaganda.

Freedom of speech means I’m free to express my views and criticize yours, and you're free to express your views and criticize mine—as long as neither of us threatens to harm the other.

When someone uses exaggeration, half-truths, and outright lies to discredit other people's beliefs, we quickly realize they can't justify their own beliefs legitimately.

When movements, organizations, education systems, or political parties use these same techniques (exaggeration, half-truths, and outright lies), it's called propaganda. And propaganda always seeks to censor free speech.

Jeremiah was faced with propaganda and tyranny in his day, and the Lord spoke these truths to him in Jeremiah 9

“‘You live in the midst of deception.… Who is wise enough to understand this? … It is because [the majority] have forsaken my law, which I set before them; they have not obeyed me or followed my law. Instead, they have followed the stubbornness of their hearts. This is what the Lord says: Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,’ declares the Lord.

As we face increased anti-Bible propaganda, we can trust that everything the Lord tells us in His Word is kind, just, and righteous, even the commands that contradict cultural propaganda.

Let's recognize propaganda, dear Christians, and stand firm.
