My husband was a career soldier for twenty-two years, and during that time, he learned both offensive and defensive strategies for battle.
Even though our battle as Christians isn't a battle against flesh and blood, we must be prepared in advance (Ephesians 6:10-20).
We cannot learn a few verses of Scripture and then neglect regular Bible study. We can't simply talk about praying; we need to pray. And we need more than shallow fellowship with other believers.
God's Word helps us understand the offensive and defensive strategies in the spiritual battle waging around us. His Word is a “sword” that cuts through the lies of culture and defends us against them (Hebrews 4:12; Ephesians 6:17).
Prayer gives us guidance, direction, comfort, and joy, preparing us for battle.
Fellowship with Jesus-loving, Bible-believing Christians motivates and strengthens us.
We will not survive the onslaught of persecution we are facing without the guidance, protection, and wisdom that come from Bible study, prayer, and fellowship.
“There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while.… So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world.… Live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires” (verses from 1 Peter 1).
