Both Psalm 14 and Psalm 53 begin with this simple statement: “The fool says in his heart, 'There is no God.'”
I've read those words multiple times, but this time I thought about how people can say they believe in God but live their lives as if He doesn't really exist. That's because believing in God is more than words. It's understanding who He is:
"The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God" (Psalm 14:2).
✔ Some people say there is a God, but they deny His commands when it suits them. For example, they may justify dishonesty to gain some extra income. Or they may justify sexual impurity to indulge in pornography or an ungodly relationship.
✔ Some people say there is a God, but they deny His character by customizing Him so He'll be more popular with secular culture.
✔ Some people say there is a God, but they deny what it means to follow Him. They may seek wealth instead of godliness, self-esteem instead of God-esteem, boundaries instead of reconciliation.
Yes, "The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God," and He listens to more than our words. He observes our lives.
Let's consider this whenever we make a choice, dear Christians. Let's fully trust His commands, His character, and His calling on our lives.
