The Man Who Said "Yes" to His Wife and "No" to God

If we let our spouse, friend, or selfish desires side-track God's plans or commands, we'll end up like the man in this story.

The first man committed his first sin when he said "yes" to his wife and "no" to God (Genesis 3:6; 1 Timothy 2:14).(1)

Sadly, throughout history men and women have done the same—chosen to please a spouse, a friend, or their own selfish desires instead of obeying God's commands.

I know the true story of a godly young man who felt God's call to overseas mission work. But when he met his fiancée, she convinced him to take stateside work. He then spent years going from one job to another, never satisfied with those in authority over him. By the time he found a permanent job, his faith was weak and shallow (2 Timothy 3:1-5).

Whenever we disobey God, it affects both our discernment and our faith. And rejecting God's authority often leads to problems with other forms of authority in our lives.(2)

Don't let that happen in your life! If you’ve rejected the authority of God's Word or the authority of His guidance, please repent, restore your relationship with God, and get back to fulfilling His purposes for your life (Ephesians 2:10).

The words of David in Psalm 51 can be helpful.

If we let our spouse, friend, or selfish desires side-track God's plans or commands, we'll end up like the man in this story.
