Why the Curtain Tore at Christ's Death

This is such a wonderful miracle that occurred the minute Christ died. Discover the significance in this 1-minute devotion.

In the Old Testament temple, the people were prevented from entering the Holy of Holies by a curtain approximately twenty feet wide, sixty feet long, and four inches thick. No one was allowed into God's presence except the high priest, and he could only enter once a year to make atonement for Israel’s sins (Hebrews 9).

Keeping in mind the size and thickness of this curtain, ponder what happened the moment Christ died:

“And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.” Matthew 27:50-51

What a wonderful moment!

No more need for temples!
God would soon live in human hearts (1 Corinthians 2:12; 1 Corinthians 6:19; Acts 7:48-49).

 No more debt!
Sin no longer separated believers from God (Ephesians 1:7).

 No middleman!
Believers can now go boldly and directly to God because Jesus is our High Priest:

“So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” Hebrews 4:14-16
