4 Things Christians Should Write (or not write)

The Christian life can be challenging. These writing projects can make your time more productive. And there are non-writing options as well.

Being constructive and productive during challenging times....

There are lots of unknowns about life, but God has purposes for all of us during these times when our faith is being challenged (Ephesians 2:10). These suggestions can help you use your time more productively, doing things that increase your faith.

Four possible writing projects (see non-writing options in the footnotes):

1. Begin journaling through a book of the Bible.
Study it line upon line, writing down insights and applications. I would suggest Philippians since it's about joy in hardship. See Journal is a Verb, 8 Reasons to Journal, A Fun Word Study, and the helpful resource in footnote #1.

2. Write letters or emails of encouragement to lonely people.
Encouraging others takes your focus off yourself and ultimately encourages you! See Call Your Mom and Beatin' the Blues.

3. Write down faith-building stories from your life.
Writing about God's faithfulness in your life will encourage you and can be a record for future generations of your family. See Remember.

4. Start a happiness diary.
When you're stressed, lonely, confused, or fearful, a happiness diary can give you perspective. To learn exactly what this means, see Do You Have a Happiness Diary?

Footnotes:
(1) I often use the free online resources on Bible Hub to study the original languages, compare the verses in different translations, and read commentaries verse-by-verse. It’s not the fanciest site, but it's user-friendly and it has very few ads.

If you hate writing, here are some non-writing options:
1.  Study a book of the Bible with a family member and discuss it line-upon-line.
2. Call people who might be lonely or bored.
3. Share things God has done in your life with family or friends, and ask them to share their "God stories" with you.
4. Thank God aloud for good aspects of your day.
