How I Delight in Your Commands!

Psalm 119 talks about God's commands and offers wisdom quite relevant to our present day when so many of God's laws are being rejected by mankind and even by professing Christians.

Why not read Psalm 119 today. It's a "song" of love for God and His Word.

The psalmist praises various aspects of God's Word such as God's commands. As our Creator, God alone has authority to define right and wrong. He alone knows what blesses us and what damages us.

In our present culture the foundations of truth and wisdom are being destroyed in three major ways (Psalm 11:3):

1. Our culture is calling good evil and evil good (Isaiah 5:20).

2. False teachers are claiming it "legalism" to stress the importance of obeying New Testament commands (Romans 6:1-2).

3. False teachers are devaluing the finished work of Christ by demanding Old Testament law-keeping (Galatians 2:19-21).

Outside of the church, proud men deny God's Word (Romans 1:16-32). Inside the church, proud men distort God's Word.

Let's agree with the psalmist when he says, "'How I delight in your commands! How I love them!' …The proud hold me in utter contempt, but I do not turn away from your instructions" (Psalm 119:47-51).
