Human Chameleons

The Old Testament tells us about a human chameleon named Joash, and he teaches us an important lesson. This 1-minute devotion explains. #BibleLoveNotes #Bible

A tiny lizard jumped from my windowsill to a patch of brown grass in the yard, changing from green to brown.(1) This made me think about human chameleons.

The Old Testament gives us a good example in 2 Chronicles 24.

Joash became king as a child and he was a godly ruler as long as his mentor Jehoiada was alive (2 Chronicles 24:1-2). He made reforms in Israel that honored God.

But when Johoiada died, Joash changed his colors, abandoning God and leading Israel into idol worship (2 Chronicles 24:17-18). He ignored God’s prophets and even killed Johoiada’s son.

Sadly, there will always be chameleons in this world, people who seem to be headed in the right direction who slowly or suddenly change their colors. When we love these people, they leave us sad and confused. Satan hopes we'll follow their example and change our colors too.

That's why we must never found our faith on people. Instead, we have a sure foundation in the unchanging character of our Savior (Hebrews 13:8).

“For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 3:11

(1) They’ve discovered that chameleon lizards change colors for a variety of reasons, not necessarily to blend into their environment. But this little lizard definitely blended into his surroundings. 😊

To reinforce the truths in this devotion, I encourage you to read about the three reasons that God asked Abraham to offer Isaac: Abraham Didn't Know He Could Do It
