Cain committed the first murder on earth—the premeditated murder of his brother Abel (Genesis 4:3-8).
But this murder was motivated by a collection of other sins: jealousy, anger, hatred, and resentment.
Cain murdered Abel “because his own actions were evil and his brother's were righteous” (1 John 3:12).
From the beginning of time, those who reject God have hated those who love Him. Christ-followers are the fragrance of Christ and that’s a smell non-Christians can’t stand (2 Corinthians 2:15-16).
That's why people hated Jesus:
"If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.” John 15:18-19
We can't stop this kind of hatred, but we can love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us (Matthew 5:44).
