My Husband Hates Raisins

What do raisins have to do with hard Bible passages? This 1-minute devotion explains.

My husband hates raisins more than any other food.

If someone told me he’d eaten some, I wouldn’t believe them even if I found the empty raisin box in his pocket. I’d know there was another explanation.

Why? Because I've known my husband for over fifty years.

Sometimes when I first read a passage in Scripture, especially certain Old Testament passages, it's like finding a box of raisins in my husband's pocket. The passage doesn't seem to fit what I know about God and His Word.

But I never doubt God's goodness, love, or perfection. Nor do I doubt the inerrancy of God's Word. I know there's another explanation (Proverbs 3:5; Jeremiah 9:23-24; 1Corinthians 13:12).

Why? Because I've known Jesus and studied His Word for more than forty years.

We judge everything based on our knowledge and trust of the people and resources involved.

How much do you trust God and His Word?

Note: In my forty years of Bible study, I have found that the difficult Bible passages usually have a perfectly good explanation if I am willing to study them thoroughly. If you'd like to read 1-minute devotions about some of these difficult passages, check out the Hard Questions archive.
