When Destructive Sins Are Celebrated

Have you ever wondered why some of the most damaging sins are celebrated by our culture? This 1-minute devotion challenges us to stand firm. #BibleLoveNotes #Bible #Devotions

God views some sins as especially evil and damaging to the people who commit them (1 Corinthians 6:18; Hebrews 10:26-29).

He does not view gossip the same as sexual sins or murder, and we misrepresent God by claiming He does.(1)

Does it not seem ironic to you that some of the sins that God sees as especially damaging have become the rallying cries for our modern culture?

The fallen world doesn’t simply defend homosexuality and abortion, they celebrate them.

These two sins once divided Christians from pagans. Now they cause divisions among professing Christians.(2)

No one defends gossip, irresponsibility, or overeating. But lots of folks defend homosexuality and murder of unborn children.

Someday Christians may be censured for explaining what God’s Word says about these sins.(3)

Satan always takes man to the lowest levels of degradation, mocking God’s loving commands (1 Peter 5:8). (See Fingers in the Flames.)

Stand firm, dear Christians. Put on the full armor of God and take your stand (Ephesians 6:10-20)!
-------------------
(1) Dear Christians, please quit propagating this lie. Just because something is repeated often doesn't make it true! Without Christ, any sin sends us to Hell and with Christ any sin can be forgiven. But that does not make all sins equal. Some sins do more damage to our souls and to society, and God makes that perfectly clear in both Old and New Testaments. If we keep claiming all sins are equal in God’s sight, we help Satan promote especially destructive sins. See All Sins Are Not the Same.  See also Why Homosexuality is Not Like Other Sins and Why Homosexuality is Different. (This last article was written in 2012 before we had the "Shout Your Abortion" celebrations.)

(2) Bible Love Notes has an archive of thousands of 1-minute devotions about hundreds of different subjects. Not once has anyone suggested I should quit writing about negative thought patterns, repentance, hypocrisy, unwholesome language, etc. But when I write about homosexuality (a culturally acceptable sin), I usually have professing Christians ask me why I'm talking about homosexuality and suggest I write about other sins instead. Christians are buckling under the pressures of culture and we need to remember that we owe God our loyalty.

(3) It’s important that Christians always express God’s design and commands in gracious ways with hopes that those who commit these sins will repent and find love, hope, and deliverance in Christ (Colossians 4:6). But we must realize that even when we share things in a godly way, we are going to be called “haters” or worse. Now more than ever, we must seek to please Christ, not men.

Bible Love Notes

  1. This is so relevant. So many professing Christians help Satan spread the lie that homosexuals behavior is not a sin. I do not understand how anyone defends abortion and does not see the evil behind it is.

  4. I have grown up hearing, "All sin is the same in the eyes of God," but you are correct. All sin is not the same. Thank you for clarifying this.

  5. Thank you! I'm the only one in my circle who says the same thing. What sin besides homosexuality does God call an abomination?
"These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren."
    Proverbs 6:16‭-‬19 KJV
Obviously not all sin is equal. Lying in different forms is listed twice in this passage. And what better way to cause discord among believers than lying. Innocent blood? Sounds like abortion and infanticide to me. These people run to do evil and curse those who do good.

  6. We must remain strongly united against the sin of abortion and homosexuality. The “world” is ruled by Satan and it seems the majority is in his hands. Sad but true!
