Jeremiah's Boast

Do you know why Jeremiah is called the "Weeping Prophet"? This 1-minute devotion explains his faith and frustrations. #BibleLoveNotes #Bible

Bible scholars believe Jeremiah began his lifelong prophetic mission before age 25.

God told him not to marry (Jeremiah 16:1-2) and warned him that his ministry would be frustrating and difficult (Jeremiah 1:12-19).

Because Jeremiah loved God, he grieved over the stubbornness of God's people. This is why he's often called the "weeping prophet."

He sometimes complained and expressed his frustrations (Jeremiah 12), but he never failed to speak God's truths (Jeremiah 20:8-9).

He could make this boast:

"'Let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,' declares the LORD."  Jeremiah 9:24

No matter how hard his life was (and it was plenty hard), and no matter how often he was rejected (and he was often rejected), Jeremiah could boast that he knew his God to be kind, just, and righteous.

May this be our boast too!
