Lies Some Christians Believe - The Focus of Scripture is Me

Psalm 139 has an important message and emphasis, but that emphasis is sometimes misunderstood. #BibleLoveNotes #Bible

Psalm 139 esteems God, not man...

Our souls should be encouraged by Scripture, but we can miss the point, if we're not careful.

For example, Psalm 139. I've heard it emphasized as a tribute to mankind because we are "fearfully and wonderfully made."

But Psalm 139 is a tribute to God, not us. We're wonderfully created because He is a wonderful Creator. Psalm 139 is about His awesome ability to design, and His unbelievable knowledge of every detail of our lives.

When we focus on ourselves or any aspect of creation more than on the Creator, we actually take a step in the direction of paganism as described in Romans 1:25:

"They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen."

Remarkably, when we focus on God, we gain a healthier view of ourselves (Romans 12:3), and we become more other-focused as well (Philippians 2:3-7).

Focusing on self shrinks our souls. Focusing on God and others expands our souls!
