I Remember the Log

Matthew 7:5, Get rid of the log in your eye, get rid of the plank in your eye
Matthew 7:1-5 tells us to judge ourselves first (i.e. honestly, repentantly, diligently address our sins) before judging the sins of others.

"Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye." NLT

We can't see other people's sins clearly with a big old log in our eye.

There are famous examples: well-known pastors who preached against immorality but lived immorally.

But folks with eye-logs are everywhere:
  • Judgmental people getting upset when they are judged.
  • Rude people expecting others to treat them kindly.
  • People claiming to be tolerant while showing intolerance to those who disagree with them.
  • Disrespectful people demanding respect.
Sometimes I think, "Why can't they see that they are doing the very thing they are accusing others of doing?"

Then I remember the log ... and I ask God to remove any logs in my eyes.
