I Remember the Plank

1-minute devotion encouraging us to check our eyes for planks!

Matthew 7:1-5 tells us to judge ourselves first (i.e. honestly, repentantly, diligently address our sins) before judging the sins of others.

"You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye."

We can't see other people's sins clearly with a big old plank in our eye.

There are famous examples: well-known pastors who preached against immorality but lived immorally.

But folks with eye-logs are everywhere:
  • Judgmental people getting upset when they are judged.
  • Rude people expecting others to treat them kindly.
  • People claiming to be tolerant while showing intolerance to those who disagree with them.
  • Disrespectful people demanding respect.
Sometimes I think, "Why can't they see that they are doing the very thing they are accusing others of doing?"

Then I remember the plank ... and I ask God to remove any planks in my eyes.
