Let's Summarize the 5 Tips for Slaying Giants

The story of David and Goliath offers 5 tips for dealing with giant problems in our lives. This 1-minute devotion explains.

This last week, we've discussed the story of David and Goliath in 1 Samuel 17. It offers some wonderful principles for slaying our “giants,” living our faith boldly, defeating our fears, sinful temptations, harmful thoughts, discouragement, and attacks from Satan.

Let's summarize the 4 points in this week's devotions and add a new one:

1. Expect negative feedback when you attempt to conquer a giant (17:28-31). Be sure to ignore it!
Don't Listen to Doubters.

2. Be faithful in the small areas so you'll have confidence to defeat the giants (17:34-37).
When Little Things are Big Things.

3. Use your gifts, no matter how insignificant they seem, but be sure to combine them with faith (17:38-40).
The Shepherd Knew.

4. Be proactive in your faith. Strike first (17:48-49).
Strike First!

5. Respond to the enemy's trash talk with Truth Talk in God's name, not your name (17:41-47).
Trash Talk - Truth Talk.

If we do these things, God may use Satan's own weapons to defeat him (17:50-51).

  1. Lots if Godly wisdom here. I am sitting in a Hospital with my husband who just underwent cancer surgery to remove a tumor in his esophagus . He also had part of his stomach part of his spleen and all of his pancreas removed. He can't eat or drink until tommorrow and he is struggling. Yhe giant he has to face is huge . He doesn't know Jesus as gus personal savior. That is a great concern for me but I have given it to God and prayer from myself and others . My giant is not to get overwhelmed by his anger and disobediance to Dr.orders.So Lord I have no idea what my stone us except prayer and the knowledge thay God loves him. So I am thankful for your in depth message. It will take a while fir me to soak it all in but I kniw God is a big God and I trust Him to guide me through His Holy Spirit. Use me Lord however You want i regards to my husband. Give ne eyes to see. Ears to hear and a heart of flesh.
    In Jesus name Amen
