Sweet Lemons

Lemons, Benefits of Lemons, Romans 8:28, God uses something sour for our good
“Scientists at the Center for Autoimmune Diseases at Tel Aviv University recently discovered a link between depression and our sense of smell, and found that citrus fragrances—lemons in particular—directly affected neurotransmitters in the brains of mice. The aromas help boost serotonin, a feel-good hormone, and reduce levels of norepinephrine, a stress hormone.” (1)

One woman actually replaced 15 years of anti-depressant use with lemon aromatherapy!

Anyone who knows me knows I love lemons. I have to have about 6 slices in each glass of iced tea, I make myself homemade lemonade every day, and I love anything with tart lemony flavor. But this study makes me even more fond of lemons.

Isn’t is just like God to use something sour for our good? It adds meaning to the saying “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.”

“God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” Romans 8:28, NLT

  4. I'm heading out to the kitchen to put some slices of lemons in a glass of water and then I am going to find some lemon essential oil. My goal this year is to draw nearer to the Lord with thanksgiving so that I discover joy no matter what life brings. Lemons?! Thanks you so much Gail.

  5. Nature's medicine is often the best. I have someone very close to be that suffers from depression and I will certainly suggest this. I'm like you -- I just love the smell and taste of lemons. Our neighbor has a lemon tree that hangs over into our yard and the smell of the blossoms is really wonderful! Especially in the evenings.

  9. I heard about this before, but that it has to be natural lemon scent, not just the "lemon-y" scented candles, etc.
