If Only God Were Easy

C.S. Lewis, If Christianity was something we were making up of course we could make it easier
The woman told me she didn’t believe in Christianity because, if she were God, she’d have communicated in a more reliable way than the Bible.

Funny how often we think we could run the universe better than God. We want a god who is simple to understand even though that would make him our peer. He'd be just as confused and limited as we are.

C.S. Lewis said this about the complexity of God:
“If Christianity was something we were making up, of course we could make it easier. But it is not. We cannot compete, in simplicity, with people who are inventing religions. How could we? We are dealing with Fact. Of course anyone can be simple if he has no facts to bother about.”*

Today let’s thank God that even though He's complex and infinite, He has clearly revealed His love and purposes for us (2 Peter 1:3).

      1. Thank you for encouraging me with your comment! Bless you, Gail

    2. Oh my...Its a good thing I am not God! I mess up enough trying to do things on my own. He has to remind me of that A LOT! I tend to think I have got this... when all along I don't have it at all!

    3. I love my Bible and appreciate that God communicated His love to me through it. I could never have found a better and simpler way for Him to have communicate to us.

    4. The words of the song by Steven Curtis Chapman come to mind:

God is God and I am not.
I can only see a part of the picture He’s painting.
God is God and I am man.
So I’ll never understand it all.
      For only God is God.

Thanks for sharing this my friend :)

      1. So appropriate, Diana. Thanks for sharing these lyrics. Gail
