What Are Your Comfort Foods?

Comfort foods, Comfort from God, 2 Corinthians 1:3-5
What are your “comfort foods”?

Mine are homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, and soup.

God designed foods for our enjoyment, but food isn’t actually meant to comfort us—that’s something God wants to do.

In 2 Corinthians 1:3-5, He’s called the God of all comfort. What a great promise!

But we must accept his comfort. When Joseph disappeared we’re told that Jacob refused to be comforted (Genesis 37:35). Jacob forgot that God is in charge, that God turns bad into good, that God wants to comfort us. Jacob's refusal to accept comfort didn’t bring Joseph back any sooner. It just made Jacob miserable for a good chunk of his life.

Are you in need of comfort in some area of your life today? A second helping of pie won't do the trick! Instead ask for God's comfort, and accept it when He gives it. He’s able to comfort you in any and every situation!

  1. Gail,
Again, words I needed to hear. How blessed I am to have found your blog today. God is so good!

It never ceases to amaze me the way blogs minister to people and how a few simple words can help someone change their perspective and recognize God's presence in their lives.

I've been struggling to give up control of something that happened and it's been a struggle, but reading your reminder is like hearing God speak to me. I'm instantly comforted.
    Thank you!

  3. Thank you for this today. Like Joseph I've ignored or refused God's comfort feeling unworthy... a failure. While I speak to God and pray daily.... perhaps it is time to hush and listen more.
