4 Biblical Secrets to Optimism

4 secrets of optimism, be thankful, Biblical Happiness
Optimism...

Some people seem to be born with it and others without it.

But the Bible offers 4 tips for becoming more optimisitc no matter our temperament:

1. Be thankful!

“Be thankful in all circumstances.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18, NLT

Thanking God and others for what we have takes our focus off what we don’t have. (See "Practicing Gratefulness")

2. Put others first.

“Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.” Philippians 2:4, NASB

Thinking about the needs of others gives us a purpose beyond our difficulties. (See "Beatin' the Blues")

3. Focus on the Positive.

“Fix your thoughts on what it true and honorable and right.” Philippians 4:8, NLT

Dwelling on the good—even something as simple as nice weather—cheers us. (See "A Half Full Faith")

4. Remember Jesus!
“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Jesus in John 16:33, NIV

Remind yourself that whatever happens, you have Christ! (See "Inhale His Presence"

If we follow these principles, we'll have a hope-filled, optimistic attitude toward life.

  1. Hi Gail,

These are head on! I've struggled with some of these but I'm so thankful that God has brought me to such a sweet place in Him that He has allowed me to go through certain situations that have certainly taught me some good lessons and changed my whole outlook on life. Amazing how we don't realize it at the time but it's through God's grace and mercy that He extends to us that He allows certain things in our life to purify us and help us become the kind of people He wants us to be. Now when I face obstacles in my life I simply ask the Lord, what are you trying to teach me? and sooner or later, He always answers me.

    Great post!

    Blessings,
    ~Marie
