The Little Boy Who Cried Wolf

ninth commandment, lying, proverbs 12:22, Colossians 3:9
I told my granddaughter Gracie the story of “The Little Boy Who Cried Wolf,” and she loves it. She asks to hear it so much that I’ve started telling it a little differently each time. It’s always a message about someone getting caught lying, but not always a little boy and a wolf. Gracie doesn’t mind.

The little boy who cried wolf didn’t obey God's Ninth Commandment and didn't realize that “we can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but we can’t ever fool God!"

God's name is Truth (John 14:6), and lies distance us from His protection and His love (Proverbs 12:22; Colossians 3:9)

If there are areas of your life where you are lying to yourself or others, come clean today. Ask God’s help—He is eager to give it.

  1. Thanks for the reminder that Truth is a characteristic from God Gail! I'm encouraged to process this for my own life.

  2. I used to be intrigued by this story when I was a child also! I grew up with a woman who continually cried wolf and then one day, when she needed people to genuinely listen and help her - they were not forthcoming because of earlier lies!
