Help for Anger, Fear, and Lack of Self-Control - Scriptures and Resources

Scriptures, Resources
In the devotion "Let God's Word Transform You," I encouraged you to read, memorize or meditate on Scripture verses daily (or several times a day) to help overcome sin problems.

You can put them on your phone or computer, on sticky notes placed where you'll see them, or on 3x5 cards in your purse or pocket.

You might memorize the shorter passages and read the longer ones. Eventually, if you read the longer passages daily, you will memorize them also.

Below I've compiled a few short lists to give you more an idea of passages that relate to specific problems.

If you have a problem with ANGER:

Psalm 37:8: Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil.

Ephesians 4:26-27“In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.

Proverbs 16:32: Better to be patient than powerful; better to have self-control than to conquer a city.

If you have a problem with FEAR & WORRY:

1 Peter 5:7: Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.

Matthew 6:30-34: If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Philippians 4:6-7: Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Matthew 11:28-30: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

If you lack of SELF-CONTROL:

Proverbs 25:28: A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.

2 Peter 1:3-9: His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

5For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.

Proverbs 16:32: Better to be patient than powerful; better to have self-control than to conquer a city.
