The Beginning of Wisdom

What keeps Christians in the race of faith

We sometimes misunderstand "fear of the Lord." But more often, we misunderstand "beginning."

Let me explain.

Proverbs 9:10 and Psalm 111:10 say: "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom."

The fear of the Lord (healthy respect, awe, and understanding of God's infinite magnitude) is the beginning of our race...not the end.

We start on wisdom's track when we fear the Lord, and begin a race that will last a lifetime (2 Timothy 4:7-8).

Why?

Because we serve a God of infinite wisdom, love, glory, and perfection. We will always be learning new and wonderful truths about Him.

So why do I think we misunderstand the word "beginning"?

Because we Christians are notorious about leaving our growth in Christ to chance - no plan or priority for Bible study, mentoring, or prayer.

We act as if we've finished the race when we've just begun.

Take time today to make at least one plan that will improve your strength for the race.
