Even
as early as the 1980's we were seeing changes in television programing.
Shows were becoming more fast-paced requiring no more
than a few seconds of concentration at a time. According to one early
study, in a typical hour, “viewers’ attention was forced to shift over
eight
hundred times.”
As you can imagine, since the 80's, technology has become even more fast-paced.
Most Christians realize that we should avoid ungodly programing (Psalm 101:3; Ephesians 5:11),
but too much entertainment of any kind can affect our thinking skills, attention spans, and priorities.
We won't grow as Christians if we neglect time in our Bible and time in prayer. As Romans 12:2-3 explains, we must be actively involved in transforming our minds,
changing the way we think, and understanding God's will for us. And that
requires dedicated concentration and time.
