Romans 12 is a chapter rich with wonderful truths that transform us. For example, the first two verses share these powerful facts:
1. Christians are motivated by God’s sacrificial love.
You and I were on “death row,” guilty in our sins, deserving eternal death (Romans 3:23). But Jesus stepped in and took our place. We owe Him our lives (1 Corinthians 6:20; 7:23).
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship” Romans 12:1
If someone rejects God because of difficulty or testing, they never knew Him in the first place. God owes us nothing. We owe Him everything.
2. Christians are transforming, not conforming.
The world is constantly tempting us to neglect or reject our faith. We must do more than resist. We must transform our minds by God’s truth.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2
If we're genuinely grateful for our salvation, we allow God to transform our hearts and minds so we can understand what pleases Him (Philippians 2:12-13).
Romans 12:1-2 in a nutshell: The Christian life = gratitude and transformation.
