He delivered a knock-out blow then whimpered away, fearful and depressed.
In 1 Kings 18, with full confidence in God, Elijah took a gutsy stand against paganism at great personal risk. But immediately afterward, he fled in fear, disillusioned and depressed (1 Kings 19).
What happened next is interesting.
God let him rest and eat.
He didn’t correct or instruct Elijah until he’d done these two things…twice.
This tells me that no matter how successful and faithful we are, we can get discouraged without:
1. proper diet.
2. proper rest.
But Elijah did a third thing when he hit that wall of depression:
3. He cried out to the Lord.
Christ says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest,” and Scripture promises that “those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength” (Matthew 11:28, Isaiah 40:31).
Are you feeling discouraged? Then try the Elijah cure: eat, rest, and cry out to the Lord.

Hi Gail - such wise advice. Sometimes all it takes is a good rest and some healthy food to see the world differently and refocus.

ReplyDeleteThanks Gail, for this one. I needed it today...been a rough one.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this. I have been eating a lot of chocolates when I normally do not and probably while I've been feeling sluggish. On my way to getting back on track, I really dislike this feeling 😞
ReplyDeleteGail,
ReplyDeleteThis week started dieting and also writing down everything. Almost like a journal (Food one) Usually don't do good but with God's help am doing better. Praying for him to help me. Always remembered that God will help those who help themselves. Feel so blessed. What keeps me going is that God loves me. Even if no one else does, God does. He will never leave me nor forsake me. That means alot because of my earlier life. Could write on everything I read of yours. This is going to be a super site for me for building my faith in God.
Donna
