Amid the Crowd: Our Struggle and Our Victory

This excellent poem offers us wisdom we all need to embrace!

Jesus says we'll be hated if we reject worldly beliefs and follow Him (John 15:18-19). It's comforting to know that despite the world's rejection “we are more than conquerors through him who loved us” (Romans 8:18-39).

My dear aunt Donna recently shared this poem with me written by her friend Jane Dill Thomas.* I think it beautifully expresses both our struggle and our victory:

 Amid The Crowd
by Jane Dill Thomas

Had I been at the cross that day
As Jesus bled and died
Would I have dared to call Him, Friend,
With soldiers by my side?

Would I have cried amid the mob
To set my Savior free?
Would I have known that Christ alone
Would reign eternally?

How does the world differ
In its views of Christ today
And how can I influence men
By what I have to say?

Today I walk amid a crowd
That’s ready to condemn
And often find I’m hesitant
To say, “I follow Him.”

But Jesus gives me words to speak
To ears that want to hear.
He daily fills me with His love
And takes away my fear.

And as I pray for deeper faith
And courage to be strong
My Savior gently leads me
And chastises when I’m wrong.

So how can I be silent
When the crowd calls out to me?
My Jesus wants the world to know
His love brings victory!
