I admit that I sometimes complain, but I shouldn't.
Complaining:
1. makes us focus on the negatives.
2. makes us discouraged.
3. makes others discouraged.
4. doesn't solve any problems.
5. can easily become a habit.
6. It dulls our light (our witness) in the world:
“Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people.” Philippians 2:14-15
7. It steals our peace:
“Finally,
brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is
right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if
anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things...And the God of peace will be with you.” Philippians 4:8-9
This verse tells us to adjust our focus, and let me suggest one way to do that:
Read a passage like Psalm 103:1-13 and remember God's
benefits: His forgiveness, healing, redemption, renewal, love,
compassion, justice, etc. You might want to memorize verses 10-13:
“He
does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our
iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is
his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so
far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has
compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear
him.”
If that doesn't cheer you, nothing will!
