I met her several moves ago and soon realized that our friendship would be challenging. I gave it my best, overlooking her rudeness and trying to focus on her good points (Philippians 4:8).
But things kept getting worse. It got to the point where she criticized everything I did, thinking the worst of me, and pouting if I didn't fit my life into her plans.
I finally suggested that maybe we weren't supposed to be close friends, just acquaintances.
I believe God allowed me to meet this woman as a perfect example of how hypocrisy ruins our spiritual vision, keeps us from recognizing our sins, and causes us to misjudge the behavior of others.
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” Matthew 7:1-5
This woman's example has been a good reminder to me that if I don't deal with my own sins, I'll start misjudging others. I never want my spiritual vision blocked by hypocrisy.
