As culture abandons logic and morality, Christianity becomes more challenging. When we take unpopular stands for God’s truth, we face rejection, criticism, and even hatred.
This same thing happened 2500 years ago when Jeremiah was speaking God’s truth. Every time he spoke, he faced ridicule and rejection, even from his own family (Jeremiah 12:6).
But God gave him this charge:
“‘Get yourself ready! Stand up and say to them whatever I command you. Do not be terrified by them, or I will terrify you before them. Today I have made you a fortified city, an iron pillar and a bronze wall to stand against the whole land—against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests and the people of the land. They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you,’ declares the Lord.” Jeremiah 1:17-19
A fortified city – assuring Jeremiah he could withstand the attack.
An iron pillar – used to hold up an upper floor and assuring Jeremiah the opposition wouldn't crush him.
A bronze wall – like an enormous shield (Psalm 18:35).
God promised He’d protect Jeremiah. But He also warned Jeremiah that it’s better to speak truth and face the rejection of men than remain silent and face the discipline of God.
