What Does Scripture Say about Gender?

What does the Bible say about gender?

Let's start with God's creation design:

“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27).

Next, let's go to the New Testament confirmation of God's design:

In Matthew 19:4-6, Jesus specifically states that God created male and female and designed marriage for intimacy between male and female. 

Now we'll look at the Bible's condemnation of cross-dressing:

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 says, “Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.” 

Even though many translations combine effeminate with homosexual, it's actually two separate words and two separate sins. In the Greek, malakos means men who intentionally act like women. This would include men in drag, cross-dressers, or transvestites, even if they don't perform homosexual acts. 

Women dressing or acting like men is not specifically mentioned in this verse, but several other passages reveal that women should dress like women (Deuteronomy 22:5; 1 Timothy 2:9-10). 

Typically, transgenderism involves homosexuality which is condemned in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (Greek: arsenokoitai) as well as in Romans 1:26-27 and Jude 1:7. 

We're created by God's design. He knows everything about us (Job 31:15; Psalm 139:13-16; Isaiah 44:2; Isaiah 49:5; Jeremiah 1:5). He created two genders and He assigned our gender in love and wisdom.

It's never loving to encourage someone to defy the gender God gave them. Never.
