We Do Not Belong to Those Who Shrink Back

This devotion shares wonderful truths from Hebrews 10 and and encourages us to stand firm.

Let me challenge you to read Hebrews 10 today. It's rich with important reminders about our blessings.

It explains that Christ ended the Old Testament sacrifices once for all” (verses 1-10)Those sacrifices prepared our hearts and minds to receive the only sacrifice that could actually pay for our sins: Christ Himself (Hebrews 9:28).

When Christ came, He put His laws in our hearts (verse 16), forgave our sins (verses 17-18), gave us the ability to go right into the presence of God seeking His counsel and receiving His comfort (verse 19-23), and gave us a family to encourage us (verses 24-25).

Hebrews 10 explains that Christ-followers reject sinful ways because we cannot be in Christ and continue sinning (verses 26-31; 1 John 3:6). Modern man would like to redefine sin, but God’s children understand that His definitions are unchanging.

This chapter also explains that genuine faith involves persecution, but we endure it because we know that nothing on earth compares to the “better and lasting possessions” we have in the Lord (verses 32-38; 2 Timothy 3:12-13).

This chapter ends with the “motto” of every believer. Let’s recite this whenever we feel overwhelmed by the pressures, contradictions, persecution, hatred, and evil influences of our culture:

“We do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved” (verse 39).
