When It's Not a Foundation

We need this foundation in order to believe and it is a thing that people must discredit if they are going to turn from their faith.

One of the most important aspects of our faith is our trust in God’s Word. It’s the thing that produces and maintains genuine faith. (See Scriptures below.)

On the flip side, a lack of respect for God’s Word is a key element in the testimonies of people who walk away from faith in Christ.

If someone decides God’s Word is not truly God’s Word, do you realize how sad that is? It means they believe that the highest form of knowledge and wisdom is the finite mind of man.

They must depend on the limited human mind to decide right and wrong, truth and error, the meaning of life, and the possibility of life after death.

And even if they choose some parts of Scripture to believe and some to reject, they are still depending on human reasoning.

Pretty scary...

Whenever men reject the true and living God in the Bible, they create their own god in their own image and likeness.

Who are you going to stake your eternity on—a man-made god or the God of the Bible?

I recently reviewed the human reasoning in the arguments of a well-known ex-vangelical: Bart Ehrman. I encourage you to read it because it gives you a good idea of the limits and contradictions of human wisdom and the arrogance of thinking we can define God.

A common human belief is that you can trust what Jesus said, but not what Paul said. These devotions address those claims: Why You Can't Accept Christ's Words and Ignore the Rest of Scripture and Paul's Letters Are Scripture.

And enjoy these full-text Scriptures about Scripture:

Proverbs 30:5: “Every word of God is flawless.”

Isaiah 40:8: “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”

Psalm 18:30: “As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless.”

Hebrews 4:12: “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

Colossians 3:16: “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.”

Matthew 24:35: “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”

Matthew 4:4: “Jesus answered, ‘It is written: “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
